Follow up ? Ur use of stances (eternalism, nihilism, monism etc) in meaningness.. are they suitable to be re-used in other fields? E.g. in software dev, top down planning (waterfall) which seems like eternalism. Some interpret Agile as no planning is nihilistic Ur thots?

Yes, I think so, although this requires a bit of care. I take rationalism (excessive belief in the efficacy of fixed systems) as a species of eternalism.https://meaningness.com/rationalist-eternalism …

Just thinking out loud, your last line abt rationalism— is that to warn me from overly relying on your writing to apply them beyond what they were first intended?

Well, somewhat the other way around, maybe? One might describe excessively rigid faith in a system first—it seems that’s what you’d like to critique? Then one could describe that as a manifestation of eternalism if it seemed helpful for the reader’s understanding.

And one might also use the word “rationalism” to mean “excessive faith in a system” if it’s helpful; but some people will misunderstand this as an attack on rationality itself, which would be unhelpful.

Thanks for highlighting the potential pitfalls Yes i see that excessive faith in a system is a highly common phenomenon and I find ur way of articulating stances to be most ideal so far
