I very much enjoyed this paper on polyamory: https://ora.ox.ac.uk/objects/uuid:355c60d9-818c-454c-8ed2-7320ccf540f9/download_file?safe_filename=The%2BDistinctiveness%2Bof%2BPolyamory%2B-%2BFinal%2BVersion%2B.pdf&file_format=application%2Fpdf&type_of_work=Journal+article … Argues that poly is less monogamy-but-different than it gets made out to be, in a good way. Maps well to a lot of my recent (1-2 years) experience and observations of what makes it work well for other people.

I think in this case it is especially difficult for most to take onboard because it leads to situations where people can love each other and want to be together and be fundamentally unsuited to being so.

Which, ironically, a thing poly is normally quite good in its ability to accommodate! Monogamy, sadly, is the one relationship incompatibility it can't deal with.
