My spouse
@_awbery_ has written about this with more specific reference to meditation methods, e.g. in these posts: https://vajrayananow.com/2019/04/10/not-all-buddhism-is-about-liberation-from-suffering/ … https://vajrayananow.com/2019/04/06/the-limited%E2%80%8B-language-of-the-no-self/ … https://vajrayananow.com/2019/04/19/the-structure-of-buddhism/ …https://vajrayananow.com/2019/04/15/living-contradictions/ … - 12 more replies

Would like to answer but not sure what “this” is here… current meditation-induced depression, or a meditation system that may point in the wrong direction, or …?

I do think it has good results in _some_ cases; did a retreat a few weeks back where I did a lot of sitting with discomfort, which eventually caused my brain to notice that it was mostly just wasting energy struggling pointlessly against it.https://twitter.com/xuenay/status/1235146127583961091 …

So far, there seems to have been a lasting effect which generalized to other things, and made it easier to actually take concrete actions that lead to better outcomes. As opposed to stressing out about them feeling uncomfortable and thrashing around not doing anything.

Not really qualified or equipped to comment, but I've always been confused by the contemporary idea that meditation is supposed to induce or encourage "flow states." I think I know how this might relate to your work in general, but do you know of any writing on this directly?

I would think a web search would pull up a ton of stuff about this? I wrote about it here, but from a particular angle, not in general:https://vividness.live/2012/06/27/tantra-and-flow/ …

What would happen if you just meditated on the idea of making love to someone, or gazing into someone's eyes? Are there meditations like this?
-
yes, not sure if this was a rhetorical question or not.
