Actually from the core part of the Meaningness book; part of the page that comes after this one:https://meaningness.com/nihilism-hardcore-vs-lite …
Re-reading this reminds me something I wanna clarify w/ u Complete stance says meaning is neither objective nor subjective. Do u actually mean neither *wholly* objective nor *wholly* subjective? Or neither objective *at all* nor subjective *at all*?
Well, the terms "objective" and "subjective" are somewhat slippery and ill-defined, so... one would have to pin them down somewhat more to get clear about this. Is a rainbow partly subjective and partly objective? Or neither? Or what?
Currently I favor the function of two parameters: `objective` and `subjective`. Some phenomenon have a 100 for `objective` and 0 for `subjective`. others have a 50-50 split. I also allow 100-100. Perhaps it’s occupational hazard cause I write code. So I favor this perspective /1
So for me, the rainbow phenomenon has a non-zero value for `subjective` parameter and non-zero value for `objective` parameter. I submit I might be completely off-base. Ur thoughts? /2
Well, again, I think the question is what you mean by "objective" and "subjective." The "rumcake" page explains that a rainbow is not at all "objective" in the sense of "inherent in an object," but is quite objective in the sense of "can be verified by independent observers."
ah yes… i didn’t realize it when writing but u are right. I simply skipped defining what objective and subjective mean.
Rumcake page is this one right? https://meaningness.com/objective-subjective … I recall the rainbow analogy better than rumcake tho clearly I didn’t absorb what you wrote there
Right, that’s the one. Rainbow analogy is the relevant one
