Covid-19 reactions confirm to me that being meta is more about understanding what, when, where and how to apply object level engagement, than it is about about multi-system tolerance.

Multi-system tolerance would seem important in choosing the what, when, where and how, though. There's a sense in which correct action feels like it boils up spontaneously, but I've watched a ton of distributed cognition and model testing in the last few weeks.

Yep, heartily agree. I probably didn’t put it very well. Tolerance, navigation, figuring out principles and function of different systems, pre-requisite for application. Seems there’s a trap whereby the tolerance part becomes the thing, not the means.https://twitter.com/_awbery_/status/1023171942709436421?s=20 …

Charlie Awbery @_awbery_The meta-systemic focus is application in context. Congruent application often requires starting from first principles, understanding partial contributions and functionality, re-working from scratch in a new context. It is paradigmatically different from systems shopping. 11/11Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 14 likes -

It occurs to me that an important aspect of this that probably isn't mentioned enough is developing a sense for the negative space around a system -- a rudimentary understanding of one's lack of understanding.
