“Write the introduction last” is excellent advice: you don’t know what it should say until the rest is written. OTOH, writing a throw-away introduction helps you figure out what the piece is about.

I’ve removed some of the worst bits. Writing a new intro seems high priority… even if it’s another throw-away to help me understand what the rest of the book needs to cover.
