Philosophy is bunk. Pretty much. https://meaningness.com/eggplant/rationalism#philosophy …pic.twitter.com/KVv66XBtOb
If I just say that my philosophical treatise isn’t philosophy, it won’t be. Pretty much.
I hope that when you read it, you will agree that it’s not philosophical!
I have read much and already found much that I consider philosophy. Maybe we just use that word differently. But I don’t know what else you could call a (rational / reasoned / argument-based / logical ?) discussion about different ways of approaching thinking itself.
Might it be that David has in mind 'conceptual analysis' (Which I think is bunk [As always, see Huemer])?
What should I read from Huemer? I don’t remember hearing this before.
Everything including that! But in particular,https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1057/9781137344557_3 …
That analysis of Popper was pretty wretched.
Popper implicitly explains why conceptual analysis is bad. There are no foundations.
That’s similarly why Chapman’s critique of “rationalism” is so misguided to me. There are no more logical positivists.
(Except @lastpositivist)
Well, the issues that sunk logical positivism are ones that any better theory would have to deal with better. Logical positivism was a lot of serious, clear thinking that unambiguously failed. Subsequent rationalisms have simply chosen to ignore those issues.
And while there are no more logical positivists (except at MIRI? they seem to specialize in reinventing it), there are still plenty of Bayesian rationalists, who blithely ignore all the hard issues the logical positivists made honest attempts to address.
