I has come to my attention that y'all are still stuck in the prevailing paradigm of seeing yourselves as adolescent rebels trying to evade authority rather than responsible parental figures trying to wield it rightly. This is possibly our most serious psycho-spiritual deficit.

That misses the whole cause of the rebellion, which is the modern cultural noticing of the absence of God. The rebellion isn’t *against* the moral authority. It’s recognizing there is no such authority. And so anyone play-acting as one is selling something.

And yet it's a performative rebellion against (absent, fake) authority. The rebellion is even more counterproductive for lack of a target.

There is no shortage of people claiming the mantle of authority. The rebellion is against *them*. Not just the individuals who are in those positions, but against everyone who implicitly wants to maintain that social order.

That is also a problem :) The issue seems to be the romanticization of rebellion as such, regardless of how it is directed. Even when realistic rebellion would be justified, romanticizing it messes things up.
