“The pizza effect”: productive cultural appropriation/reinvention. Pizza is more-or-less an Italian-American invention. American tourists in Italy tried to find the authentic original, which didn’t exist, but entrepreneuring locals came to provide it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza_effect …

I remember
@dyddgu once telling me that Welsh lost most of its detailed words for sex due to centuries of linguistic suppression and strict religiosity, and that now people have started writing Welsh erotic poetry again they've had to reimport the necessary words from Breton. -
I think I may have been a little wrong, I can think of one specific case (clitoris iirc?) re the Breton. A lot of the words are indeed loan words, though. There has been a lot of recent work done on reclaiming medieval erotic verse to the Canon

I don’t talk that directly about the pizza effect, which was a term invented by a Tantra scholar to discuss the globalization of yoga, in the dissertation but do offer more thoughts on it in this older piece on singing bowls: https://savageminds.org/2015/10/31/tripping-on-good-vibrations-cultural-commodification-and-tibetan-singing-bowls/ …
