Pizza is very much not an Italian-American invention. A simple Wikipedia search would have told you that. Pizza American tourists look for might be what you’re thinking about.

First, Wikipedia says pizza “toppings.” Second, the superficial confusion with much Italian American culture cones from looking for its roots in Rome & Florence rather than Naples & Sicily — and assuming modern Italy & language as currently comprised existed then.
