Is there any good (ie. falsifiable) evidence that we have "evolved political instincts" instead of a reasonably general cognitive apparatus with some stupid limitations plus a ton of occasionally maladaptive cultural conditioning?

I don’t know, and would like to!

I genuinely don't know if macro-scale stuff (like which politicians get elected) is made worse by the IoB than it was before.

It does seem true that it's harder for people who do "intellectual inquiry" and "high quality" talk to find each other if most comms channels are full of "low quality" talk. But the solution to that seems like it would *not* involve ending the existence of the IoB.

This is the crux IMO. It’s not so much that debate is bad — it’s good and healthy. But context also matters, and that means everything from how well you know the people you’re arguing with (and thus how well you can model them), when, and of course, the size of the group.
