Spent 3 hours trying to get current Ruby version (2.7) running on CentOS 7 (which distributes 2.0); gave up after compilation dependencies hell. Then spent an hour and half trying to do the same on MacOS (distributes 2.3); failed similarly. Is Ruby de facto abandonware now?
Well, I was trying to make rbenv work… is that the dispreferred option now?

I have not used rbenv so cannot comment on it. I have had an OK experience with rvm.

I think rbenv is the technically superior of the two, but it takes more finagling. IIRC last time I used it, I had to bump the target's minor version/rev number until GCC agreed to cooperate.
