I mean, aside from the charming suburban atmosphere, I can guarantee beaver sightings in the CVNP and another nature preserve nearby (with an actual fen! https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/herrick-fen-nature-preserve/ …) and a chance of bald eagles

That’s a huge pull! We have beaver colonies around here but I’ve not yet seen them, only their construction sites. Have seen bald eagles a few times, but that is always a treat.

When we visited Hudson ~10 years ago (last time I was there) we visited a site that had been a toxic waste dump, and after the cleanup beavers came in and created a lovely wetland. Inspiring as rewilding / ecological regeneration.

I think it west of town, whereas Herrick is east? But my memory is vague

Ah, probably this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krejci_Dump … , kind of in the CVNP. Near where I saw the beavers:https://www.nps.gov/cuva/planyourvisit/the-beaver-marsh.htm …

That’s it! When we were there, some of it was still a wasteland, and some was a lovely beaver wetland.
