in 2020, I want to design and complete an autodidact's ethnomethodology curriculum
I've seen some stuff in my timeline, but would like to solicit inputs / recommendations from the ethnomethno crowd I follow if possible

I thought everyone agreed that EM can only be taught face to face and one person has to be doing a really enthusiastic impression of harold garfinkel

Realized I had no idea what Garfinkel’s body language / demeanor was like. Checked youtube; there appear to be no films of him.

I can’t find evidence of video of him existing anywhere although UCLA has a few audio reels apparently

Sometime I’ll go to the Garfinkel archive and listen to his conversations with people I know

Yes… well… I think Lucy was a better teacher for me than he would have been. But it’s hard to know. It’s all such a long time ago.

Ethnomethodology is sort of like Vajrayana in that the last people who were trained in the intact system are dying or retiring, and you have a last chance to go see them now.

And the system is somewhat carried on by people two generations younger, but they’ve simplified and updated and maybe dumbed down the content, which may be necessary, but you realize the full-strength thing is over and lost and you can mourn it but life goes on. Sad!
