I'm sometimes (flatteringly) asked how to write well. My personal answer is kinda boring-but-true: keep rewriting until it's good.
This point of view is extremely ad hoc and contingent. It views rules as useful _in service_ of some notion of good. Indeed, that very notion of good itself shifts. As you re-write your notion of good gradually shifts, and hopefully the text and that notion end up pretty near.
This is highly congruent with the ethnomethodological take on the rule of rules in activity!
