@Meaningness do i need to believe in actual rebirth in order to practise buddhism (especially vajrayana and dzogchen)?
if yes, why?
if no, why not?
i just cant believe in it (for now)

ive started the book "not for happiness" by dzongsar khyentse which basically says: well if u dont believe in it, forget that meditation business. especially vajrayana. that got me somehow questioning.

Yes, different teachers have different opinions about this. It’s “controversial.” So is everything in Buddhism… which is confusing at first. My opinion (which many Buddhists would reject) is that beliefs are irrelevant and can be ignored.

Interesting. I meant reincarnation rather than Buddhism per se but maybe that was right. Millennials are so different. I feel like a living fossil.

I wouldn’t be surprised if rebirth outlives Buddhism. It’s one of those vague comforting quasi-beliefs, like God, that people hold in some vague comforting way and try not to think about clearly

Maybe I’m thinking too UK centric. Yes- a vague order to things, cosmic recycling, easier to have in the back of your mind than all that complex Buddhism stuff.
