taking care of indoor air quality is probably the biggest high-return trick for living that I almost never see anyone posting about. I may be more sensitive than most, but I see immediately visible effects on my cognition, need to sleep, mood, and exercise capacity.

- filtering will remove particulates, but you need ventilation for VOCs - regularly washing not just sheets, but also pillows, mattress covers, etc helps with allergens - don’t make the mistake I made and live in a room whose only window is next to the building air exhaust vent.

If your furnace fan is circulating the air regularly, and has a HEPA filter (rather than a MERV rated one), that should be good on theory. In practice, furnace fans are rarely HEPA because that causes airflow issues, so I have an additional air purifier.

The Wirecutter has a pretty rigorous rundown of the options, and the Coway they recommend is pretty good, although you should keep the ionizer off to avoid ozone. I got one for wildfires, but a box fan with a filter duct-taped to it is likely ~equally good. (though no sensor.)
