A big failure of mathematics education is that we expect people to figure the thought process out on their own by just showing them examples of it. This only works sometimes. Linear algebra is a bit where it failed for me, because I'm much better at concepts than I am at notation

It's like why I sound Irish - I started out with a strong mathematician/American accent and then moved to a place where I acquired a strong software engineering/English diction while retaining most of the individual accent, leading to speaking like I'm from somewhere in between.

The views espoused in that article are essentially ones I would have held 15 years ago while in the height of my maths degree, just refined by being a bit more philosophically sophisticated in the time, but I've learned most of my communication skills in a software context.
