Contemporary Vajrayana religious ritual should be similar, if we had the guts and the resources!

One function of tantric ritual is to overwhelm concept-consciousness with intense sensory stimulus, so you are thrown into direct experience of awareness. EXTREMELY LOUD NOISE is a powerful method; Tibetans use enormous horns, cymbals, and drumshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cr5SXzZYTw …

Can you clarify in what way these have anything to do with Vajrayana? I would have thought the commodification and showmanship would mean they are anything but.

Showmanship is the essence of tantric ritual! Explanatory tweet storm incoming I guess… Commodification is not in the least alien to tantric ritual, either; in historical practice, fundraising was one of their most important functions. Not essential in principle, though.
