“Politics” functions as a replacement religion for a swathe of younger Americans. It is dysfunctional as a religion AND as politics. Religion satisfies innate human needs. Can we build a better substitute?https://twitter.com/curiouswavefn/status/1189723371329601536 …

Totally agree about politics. What would make a better substitute for religion not "religion"? (I'm sensing a certain entrapment by conceptual categories.)

Yes; it’s certainly nebulous what counts as “religion.” And I count myself as religious, although as an atheist some people would say I can’t be.

Whether you call something a religion or not is a market positioning issue. The product development issue is that a lot of the customer base has migrated to a different category, “politics,” so maybe figuring out why would help improve the offering.

Ah, I follow you. The "politics" that has attracted the customer base is isomorphic to a certain Abrahamic apocalyptic, now in "secular" disguise. While there is much to be learned from that pattern, I would think long and hard about using it as a model.
