I think it's a combination of 1. practitioners not practicing well enough 2. the world changing (new epistemology) fast enough to prevent the practitioners from adapting properly

Solution to #1 seems obvious, but is also the most difficult problem. If you look at #2, you will see an evergreen problem for any _new_ religion as well, which is that if we abandon our wisdom traditions whenever humanity's context changes, we will always be abandoning.

No, no. I meant we of course do need to come up with something new. But that something new should still be a religion. A new one, or an old one in new skins. It should be unfalsifiable. That is very, very important.
