I noticed I'd stopped reading nonfiction recently and realised this was because I didn't actually want to read either of the books I had on the go. It's surprisingly hard to notice the difference between not being in the mood for something and finding specific instances aversive.

I solved this problem by ditching one of the two books (David Deutch's "Beginning of Infinity") entirely and skimming the other (Bell Hook's "Feminism is for Everyone") for chapters I found interesting and declaring it done. We'll see if this solves the problem.

This is not an anti-recommendation for either of those books BTW. Perfectly good books, just failing to grab me for specific contingent reasons.

Both of these are ones I’ve thought for a long time I ought to read and yet SOMEHOW keep failing to. Hmm

FWIW my reasons for stopping: * Feminism is for Everyone: I'm already reasonably on board with the conclusion and familiar with the history, so not getting much out of it. * Beginning of Infinity: I disagreed with enough that I'd rather argue with someone about it than read it.

Those are my stopping points also. People keep wanting to argue with me about Beginning of Infinity, so I feel I ought to read it in order to be able to do so, but I’m not sure that’s a public service I’m obligated to provide.
