The ignorance of so many people is astounding. I once asked someone who insisted that Asians had never been colonialists about WW2 and they knew zero about this and Japan's behavior. (But still felt entitled to strong opinions about everything...)

I think it important not to conflate technological progress and moral, societal progress (toward a historical omega point). The first is obvious whereas the latter is secularized eschatology. Also, not to mistake such moral progress as has been made as such either. Trump: FFS

I believe in both technological and moral progress (although moral is much less clear/consistent), but I don't believe in an omega point for either one

water supplies and public sanitation, roads and cars & electricity grid I would argue are *really beneficial* but their current governance is causing global warming & we need to change that governance.
