I wonder if this is the same thing arch-rationalist EY is pointing at when he says things like <you must see all your tools broken in your hands before you can truly become a master of the art of rationality>.
Not uncommonly he goes beyond what I call rationalism and into what I call meta-rationalism. We don’t mean the same things by “rationalism”. This is unfortunate. (We also seem to have substantive disagreements, of course.)
Btw two weeks ago I *finally* understood his previously-baffling “law vs toolbox” post, which was a response to something I said. I found someone else saying the thing he thought I said, and then could see how he could mistake one for the other.
Sorting this out publicly doesn’t seem worth the effort unfortunately
I totally agree with his position in the argument he was addressing, which has nothing to do with what I have to say... sigh
