“All ravens are black.” (See: Hempel’s Paradox.) This beauty is deep blue, purple, green, and gray. Not an outlier... is any raven black? Color is nebulous. It’s not a matter of “how black.” It’s: does this count as black for this purpose?https://twitter.com/corvidresearch/status/1173715705834815488 …

It’s a wonderful reminder to cherish the black feathers of the raven and give thanks to the wildlife that enriches our lives. Thanks Raven. It was an honor to meet you. pic.twitter.com/lVzo4wbGOL

What *counts as* black? Goodwin observes a chemistry professor teaching a group of graduate students how to tell when a particular material has turned "jet black," at which point a reaction must be quenched. Takes hours to build the perceptual skill. https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/c59b/712b9daad8cbda54daa1def677280cfc2ddb.pdf …pic.twitter.com/RE4X9rr3ku

People have strong, divergent opinions about it, which is also interesting.

I loved "Through the language glass" by Guy Deutcher, describing the effect on perception of having names for colours. Apparently names can reduce the variety of colour you see and mislead you as to which real colours are more alike.

"All ravens are fucking awesome" is, however, non-ambiguous.
