I had a conversation with @OortCloudAtlas for the @DeconstructingU podcast: “Vajrayana, Engineering and Jiu-jitsu”:

I didn’t yet tweet about it as I’ve been busy helping my Mum transition into a residential home.

I am a slow thinking, ponderous speaker and I recommend listening to the podcast at 1.2x or faster. As with most podcasts, that seems to improve the listening experience significantly. 2/n

Here’s a thread synopsis of the podcast. The first five minutes or so are about my Buddhist practice and work background. A substantial first part of the conversation focuses on my series of journal posts exploring Culadasa’s TMI system. https://vajrayananow.com/2019/06/01/journaling-a-staged-path/ …pic.twitter.com/ITu7xUPPcA

This part was helpful to me as, following the Aro gTer meditation course, I'd slipped into a fascination with observing my thoughts/etc. I'm the sort of person who likes counterexamples. (

Do you know of any sources to help someone who'd be helped in his practice by statements like "shi-ne does not include X"? P.S. I have recently gotten a mentor, which I expect will help separating shi-ne from similar styles.

Here’s some. Shi-ne does not include: concentration, noting, self-talk, stopping, positive regard, opinions, reference points, preferences, analysis, body scanning, focus on an object, purification, meaning-making, oneness, transcendence, visualisation, ignoring or snoring.

I may be an exception. My shi-ne includes snoring.

It’s an advanced technique. Not everyone can hope to accomplish this.
