In case historical significance of this tweet is not obvious: this is the first time anyone is paying to get CO2 removed from the atmosphere commercially. Not economical now, or best short-term approach, but probably necessary long-term; and begins here.https://twitter.com/patrickc/status/1162120064302059520 …

Farmers have been paying to sequester carbon in soil for years. AMP grazing does it faster and better than any other strategy, including so-called high tech solutions.

Nope, maybe the first for a tech company. But oil companies had been doing this for about 2 decades.

@patrickc Great start. Putting bubbles of CO2 in the earth seems like sidetracking, though. It will out, back to square one.

fantastic effort! Also, companies like Audi are working with carbon removal startups like Climeworks to produce zero-carbon e-diesel, and global resources companies like BHP Billiton, Chevron and Occidental Petroleum are investing millions in direct air capture tech

Removing CO2 other than with fauna is: - expensive ($ 600 per tCO2 for Climeworks) - needs a lot of additional energy - has to be stored somewhere The emphasis should be on not emitting CO2, this is way cheaper and has a lot of additional benefits. cc @patrickc

I hope this isn’t like plastic recycling - where the companies doing the work *say* they’re recycling it but actually just dumping it to slowly rot
