1/ Despite spending all of this time in school, I have a very poor opinion of school on the whole. I think Bryan Caplan's book "The Case Against Education" sums up the majority of my view. The problem is that we don't have a better filter option easily at hand.
2/ Various disciplines which address mental health are kind of an outlier in that they don't even do a good job of filtering OR educating as is. Filtering within the current system does a decent 50/50 chop of who shouldn't be in, but beyond that it's more a matter of..
3/ ....reliably parroting what those in power in your program want to hear. Speaking their language, whether you agree with it or not. This is why institutions ossify. This is why although I can assume someone with a PhD has a certain level of IQ, I can't assume much else.
