There is a pervasive pattern of discussion about “rationalism” versus “post-rationalism” versus “meta-rationalism” and various other ways of trying to carve reasoning up into movements or communities or ideologies. This is all a mistake.

It’s not clear to me that we need a new term. But if we did, I don’t find it helpful to basically use “rationalism” as a pointer to something *irrational*. That kind of needless confusion is unreasonable. It’s irrational.

Well, I would love to find a better term. However, this has been the standard term in the literature for several centuries. I didn’t make it up, nor am I using it in a significantly non-standard way.
