Perhaps instead of post-rationalism just reinventing LW-style rationalism, LW-rationalism is just post-rationalism that likes the word “rationality” but still differs significantly from previous forms of rationality.https://twitter.com/chaosprime/status/1155913248581009411 …

Or in a simpler way: what rationalism is post-rationalism post to? Perhaps LW is not the center of the universe and the standard by which all things are judged.

postrats are 100% post-LW, especially post-Eliezer, to some extent Scott. it all started ca. 2012. Venkat and Chapman were kinda brought into the fold around Sarah ca... idk, 2015. it started as a joke, then a social group mostly in SF and East Coast

If there’s a single rationalism I’m post, it’s 1980s symbolic AI, which I published in before figuring out why it couldn’t work, and then contributed to its euthanasia. I’ve never said I was postrational; rather, I’m uncomfortable with the implication of rejecting rationality.

When I criticize “rationalism” I’m always referring to a 2600-year tradition in which LW is a very minor development. My book takes logical positivism as the main example.
