My entire life, it's been true that "humans have been to the moon." I always kinda took it for granted.
So it's been a real treat (not to mention a bit of a mindfuck) getting to relive the Apollo 11 mission this past month, in honor of the 50th anniversary.

0. Man, I wish I could have been a 16 to 22-year-old in the summer of '69. Can you even imagine how powerful that experience would have been? (Maybe some of you can because you actually lived it?!?!)

I was eight. My parents woke me up in the middle of the night to watch. I was reluctant. “This is important,” they said. “You’ll tell your grandchildren you saw this. You will remember.” I do.

I have to say my memories are vague but I remember the particular distortion of the voices & the images. And the sense that this was utterly astounding, not like anything else that had ever happened. I think my father must have explained that to me, but apparently it got through

My parents never had a tv. They rented one for the event. It was the only time they ever did that, so in some sense they must have thought it was the only significant thing to happen during the first 17 years of my life.
