Looking 200 years ahead, I can see radical lifespan extension in humans. Current approaches (metformin, rapamycin etc) are very limited but interesting pointers. Breakthrough might come from nowhere tho- like CRISPR did.

Radical lifespan increase will bring radical changes to society and economics. And there will also be inequality- those who can afford it and those that can’t. And maybe those who cannot tolerate the treatment.

I've also had to deal with the dramatic decline of my parents. The cruelest thing: my mother becomes, if anything, increasingly adamant that she's able to do things she can no longer do.

Looking forward not too many years, I think: I could gracefully accept a decline in competence. What horrifies me is being unable to understand or accept my own decline. But so much of elder care seems to be about hiding the truth from the elderly.
