I don't know who needs to hear this* but don't shave your head before getting into a floatation tank * Other than me about three hours ago

Various people wanted to know how it went, so here's a thread of floatation tank experience. Short version is it was fine. It was like floating in a salt bath in the dark for an hour.

I actually quite liked it and may well do it again. I also designed a new test-case reducer while I was in there. I'm given to understand this was not a normal response to the experience.

One thing I was surprised by is that the after effects were much more intense than the actual experience. I was wiped. Took me several hours to stop feeling dazed. Muscles were feeling a lot more relaxed too. Not unlike the aftermath of a really good massage.

I miss living near a float place. I’d love to see whether experience would be different now, after a decade of meditation nerdery.

I tried it a few years ago. It was just like meditating in a tank of warm salty water. My ears were blocked for a couple of days afterwards though, so I recommend using earplugs.

I tried it in the 1890s. Or maybe the 1980s; I get them confused. A long time ago anyway. I was hoping for hallucinations and cosmic consciousness but the only effect I could detect was a backache.
