OK this is interesting to me, from a speculative history stance (and a few others.) What do you see as the flaws within Dozgchen that are potentially fatal? Why won’t it be practiced in 100 years? (I agree that Mahasi-esque noting practices will likely last a long time)

There will be texts of course. Anyone who can actually teach it? I’d guess not, but predicting beyond the lifetime of current teachers is highly uncertain. I suspect it is alive now only because of Western interest; it would be dead already if it depended on Tibetans.

Difficult to say about Dzogchen specifically but I have attended a number of large Tibetan Buddhist (Nyingma) events in Taiwan. For these events there are substantial amount of people attending from China and e.g. Malaysia.

Thus have I heard. I have also heard that they mainly after merit and/or magic, but that may be misinformation. Also if that is true, they might gradually develop a more sophisticated motivation (as the West has over the past century). We can hope.

My current impression is that it is a combination of admirable sincerity and magical thinking. Depending on the individuals. It is a very different environment here when it comes to religious thinking in general.
