Convergent evolution is so common on earth that it seems likely that other planets with multicellular life will have recognizable bats, whales, and moles.https://twitter.com/Extinct_AnimaIs/status/1138891376052097026 …

I suspect the same is true of intelligence. It’s evolved independently at least 3 or 4 times on earth so it seems plausible that it’s a pretty common path for evolution

Maybe not intelligences to spawn an industrial revolution, but at least octopus level cleverness

Still shared a fairly common ancestor and had a lot of the same materials, such as karatin from scales to become feathers, etc. My favorite example is lizards vs salamanders. Those are often morphologically similar but are more distant relatives then lizards and humans.

On the other hand, given the huge variety of ways found to get around and feed particularly amongst invertebrates, seems unlikely that we won’t find things that resemble SOMETHING on Earth.

Remember your mathematics! You can't usefully assert "for all objects O, x is true" until you've shown that the set of objects O is non-empty... It's reasonable, I think, to believe that other planets with life exist. Other planets with MULTI-CELLULAR life? Hmm, less obvious.

I don't think I can get behind "likely", but maybe if we narrow "other planets" to other planets with virtually identical gravity, atmospheric make-up and climate?
