Statistical analysis of pervasive digital surveillance *is* a major threat—and maybe that’s what “AI” means now. Deploying the real evil on the pretext of a defense against the imaginary one that shares its name is quite ironic.

This aggravates me as someone who takes AI risk fairly seriously, because such a monitoring regime seems unlikely to prevent catastrophic outcomes and may actually accelerate them, given the untrustworthiness of governments.

I would like to hear why you don't take AI risk seriously. I'm suspicious too, but for reasons having more to do with anthropo-/sociological concerns, rather than the science of the thing itself. Does this also mean you're not down with the singularity?
