I think my line of questioning is trying to get at whether the fandom community around a science or quasiscience is directly relevant. Radiologists and psychologists aren’t signal processing experts re fMRI, but they are not “fans” so much as adjacent experts

We have to tolerate mistakes so that they don't try to hide them, but not too much that they don't try to avoid mistakes.

I keep noticing how the risk-tolerance and social trust arising from a basic income removes or alleviates most social problems. I don't know if it's my personal bias, but I'm amazed by how much easier it makes these problems. Just give everyone flexibility and risk-tolerance.
