Does anybody argue that monism precedes dualism in a stadial/developmental sense? I have a hard time not seeing dualism as the primordial reality.

oh taylor uses it as the adjective form of “stages” like how some people have the idea that there are stages in history, axial age etc.

Ah ok. Are you mapping monism —> dualism to Jaynes here in cognitive sense or more post-bronze-age textualized philosophy sense? I’d speculate monist egregores come later than dualist but monist minds probably come first both historically, and ontogenically for modern humans
