Maybe it is reversion to the mean? I stopped using twitter for 2 years after 2016 because of how toxic things got.
I have also noticed this. I wonder if the Twitter algo took a certain tipping point and ran with it via suggestions and highlighted tweets? But I also watch the agglomeration happen in real time here in SF, so...
I've started to connect to strangers, including a biologist from Ostrava and a student from OSU.
Perhaps this will make more people consider SM a source of information rather than noise, and make participating in it more easier
