Playing out the game tree here, it will be made de facto illegal for individuals to own domain names/web sites, and you will be allowed to write only on corporate sites subject to tight safe-speech regulation. Not a prediction, but a possibility.https://twitter.com/bigleaguepol/status/1121822256353751041 …

I'd love to see that game tree, with probability-weighted branches. Lots of things are "possible"; it's a big universe. But it sounds hard to get there from here. Prove me wrong / let's bet on it?

Well... one sequence would be: the platforms get increasingly censorious; more people move onto self-hosted, federated systems; govt says hosting provider is responsible for anything that runs on their hardware; the end.

And the probabilities? Again: sure, it *could* happen. But #3 in particular seems ... iffy. Consider dark web's existence. No such ban today in spite of copyright infringement, child abuse material, drug sales... tough to believe unpopular political speech could be the trigger.

I don’t know. I am not politically sophisticated and also am not good at estimating probabilities.
