TBF I’m not sure anyone on this list would admit to being a post-rationalist? (Although maybe none of us would exactly disagree, either? Which is maybe consonant with post-rationalism’s attitude to truth: “well, it’s complicated, and also, on the other hand…”.)

Every identity has a grey area in which someone can credibly claim to be member or not a member. I know people who are not unarguably furries, but who do have sufficient related traits to credibly self-describe as such. I think postrationalism has an especially large grey area.

Inventing the term “postrationalist” and plotting us on a map that centered rationalism was an excellent act of intellectual pwnage that Scott Alexander deserves props for. Afaik this was the thing that started ithttps://slatestarcodex.com/2014/09/05/mapmaker-mapmaker-make-me-a-map/ …

Oh, I think I remember hearing the term before that, but I may well be wrong. Surprised to note that SSC’s use predates Darcey’s; I did think it was the other way around. Her post says “I think
@willdoingthings or Steve Rayhawk invented the term.” Maybe Will knows the history?3 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

yeah so Steve used it as a term for a group of mostly LW-adjacent people, e.g. the one true postrat muflax who I'm sure has transcended such things. but that's a boring history and Sarah canon afaik is you're supposed to make something up

also, (ugh there we go already, like, twice!, this persona feels so awkward to control now, bear with me, i'm still trying to put on this stupid muflax mask again without fucking up my makeup),

Yes, reassuming a long-discarded persona seems like it could be awkward…. I’ve never used alts, which is awkward in a different way; David Chapman 2019™ is a bit different from previous years’ releases, and users don’t always update.

yeah, that's the main reason why i've switched to new personas in the past, though mostly to get myself to update. that's kinda why i object to "alt". it's really just one main persona after another for me.
