Vajrayana is meta to Mahayana: (Tantra is the first part of Vajrayana.) Mahayana is the path of the bodhisattva. From Tantric perspective, bodhisattva motivation is already understood/implicit as ground for practice.

Feels... solid, to hear all this. I hadn't really realized how confusing it's been, to try and "do" cobbled-together Buddhism fragments. (And glad I didn't try to commit to a formal Sutra path!)
