i've always wanted a sliderule. i asked for one for christmas one year from my parents (always struggling to think of small easy gifts), but brainfarted and said abacus instead. so tl;dr i have an abacus now

I had one, but they became obsolete exactly the year I would have started using one in math class. Electronic calculators had just about become affordable.

Every time she read in the newspaper that X causes/prevents cancer, she’d look for the sample size, find N=26, and yell about how “we’d have LAUGHED AT THAT in market research.” This was in the late 60s and early 70s. Ahead of her time.
