It appears that more than half of all scientific papers are wrong. It would be helpful to have a database that said which those were. Yes that would be difficult. Not nearly as difficult as everyone having to find out the hard way, or not at all.https://twitter.com/jamesheathers/status/1104957375134515200 …

Several thousand papers will need to retracted just for being unforgivably bad before we change how retraction is seen (as a method of ensuring definitely unreliable literature is not accessible rather than a punishment for Naughty Little Children).

Doesn't Retraction Watch do something like that? Or would know who does... By the way, still reading paper you sent, as been snowed under. Impressive stuff so far... :-)

Thank you! Have been reading the Handbooks you recommended also. Re RW: Yes, but as @jamesheathers notes it’s only extreme cases, not run-of-the-mill mistakes or stuff that just turns out to be wrong without fault.

Doesn’t make sense to me. Papers are not binary wrong or right. They contain many methods, reagents, cell lines, observations, discussions, conclusions. Some or all of these might be wrong or right, and it might take decades to find that out.

Yes... so how do we track that in the mean time? (Real question, not rhetorical.)

LOL, the goddamn database would probably be half wrong too. There's no escape. 😂
