One of the second order harms of incredibly sloppy sociology/philosophy of science is that a lot of scientists end up dismissing the entire field out of hand. Reading Laudan/Cartwright/Hacking/Quine/Merton etc brings lots of excellent insights.

For example, Reichenbach on causation is incredibly interesting, and a lot of his work was written well before the modern methods for causal inference were developed.
