I have read only a little. (Including the SSC post.) I found it unpersuasive. I may have missed the point. I thought it was unlikely enough to turn out to be meaningful that I wasn’t motivated to learn more. That may have been a mistake.

One important point Friston makes (apparently; I haven’t read any of his stuff) is that the mixture of top-down and bottom-up processing in the brain is really important and interesting. (My PhD thesis said so too.)

Unfortunately, we know almost zero about how that works (unless there’s been a breakthrough I haven’t heard about, which is possible). “Kalman filters everywhere!” is unlikely to be the answer imo.
