At no point did he characterize the problem as "left wing." You now have, and that is being taken up by those who want to continue the war on any platform they can find. You just became part of the problem, Dave.

He did use the phrase “left wing” explicitly here. And in the surrounding paragraphs he says that his harassers characterized him as right wing, which strongly suggests that they were left wing.pic.twitter.com/HAeesyX2Oq

Orchestration by a small number of people *is* the changing condition. It's become far easier for a small group of likeminded lunatics to connect, organize, and coordinate on a target, because social distance has shrunk by orders of magnitude.

Qs: Was a large fraction of the population always consumed by insane hate, but we didn’t have the means to notice? If not, why have many more converted? Or have they? What prevents coordination among moderates to break preference falsification & say “no, this is wrong?”

I'm thinking about this as another tentacle of Moloch. Not to deprive ppl involved of their agency or responsibility, but there are subjective social incentives to do this stuff. If it relied on high level coordination it would not work so well.

I wouldn't call it a *powerful* minority. If I was willing to spend 8 hours on it I could send someone hundreds of abusive messages all seemingly from different people. Maybe 0.01% of people are willing to do so, but internet content can reach audiences of millions

A group that is capable of forcing drastic, unethical action by Mastercard is quite powerful. If (at risk of conspiracy theorizing) that action were coordinated by (say) a hundred well-connected people, they would individually be extremely powerful.
