Unfortunately had to be python due to external constraints. I use Lisp by preference. Intrigued by Haskell and hope to learn the basics someday.

Sitting in our rockers in front of the general store. I spit. "Yep." Don't have python experience, but netbeans seems to work well for java. Online syntax and type check so that I don't have to know the rules, going to definitions and finding uses.

Can you run the lispm software in emulation these days?

Too many widgets, not enough clarity, simplicity, transparency. I mostly avoid IDEs, sometimes to my great detriment.

You should try Spacemacs + CIDER + Clojure.

PyCharm is actually a Java IDE with a Python plug-in. CLion is the same for C++. Now they have their own language, Kotlin, because they had Scala envy.

I should probably add that the Java IDE is best-in-breed and I've between using it daily for many years now. It's even not bad for Scala, although the Scala support took some time to take the rough edges off.
