2/2 That person's insights into phenomenology qua phenomenology never struck me as deep but when they brought their scientific practice to bear on a phenomenological question there are unexpected rewards on both sides.
Cross-discipline insights are a major source of progress! It’s a pity that institutions mostly impede them. Although I gather they are trying to be supportive, much more so than when I was in academia.
1/2 I didn't know GCR but I know someone who knew him well and has similar proclivities - distinguished scientist with a taste for phenomenology.
3/2 My gut instinct is that phenomenology is a fluid intellectual tradition in that it doesn't have to explored within a philosophical idiom - it can be as valuable when fleshed out as a novel or a piece of art.
