20 years old in a loud nightclub- look at all these glamorous people dancing and enjoying themselves 35 years old in a loud nightclub- look at these goobers who’ve decided their selective advantage is in paying too much to be somewhere no one can hear them speak

My theory in my twenties was that all guys loathe clubs, but they’re a superstimulus simulation for something that got teenage girls ready for sex in the EEA. “Fertility rituals,” I suppose, which are documented in many/most premodern cultures. I haz aspergers, however.

Oh, yes, of course, the European Economic Area is famous for its fertility rituals! Ahem. “Environment of Evolutionary Adaptation”

What about the unadulterated joy of dancing to loud music?

Well… I found better venues for that. However, yes, it’s certainly a thing! Nice aardvark, btw!

“But do you think any of these people are enjoying it? They’re just straining to be more aimless and senseless than usual.” Characteristic exaggeration with a note of put-down by Rand, but captures something. Maybe: men and women want but fear connection. Clubs allay fears.

Long ago studies of television shows like The Dating Game, as I recall, found that the winning vacations to places like ski slopes resulted in longer relationships than beaches, for example. The interpretation was faster heart rates helped romance.

It's just fun to dance. The problem with Fleischman's analysis is that it supposes that the things that attract mates are substitutes, not complements. If you can do well in the clubs AND attract with your witty badinage, you're all the better off.

Don’t fertility rituals involve males? I was reading something by Jung about how men are primed for it; something similar here with clubbing.
